"Lasts" for Senior Year

Coming into my senior year there is going to be a lot of “lasts.” Last time with sales meetings, try-outs, road trips, competitive hockey, mud runs, etc. I must say that this years mud run was the best! Not only was the water level extra high, watermelon amazing, and the stories phenomenal, but I had the opportunity to play my favorite character. I was the World Wrestling Heavy Weight Champion of the World. My favorite part of the mud run is getting to play a character the whole time and I had a blast being “The Champ.d”

Try-outs started yesterday with our first day of scrimmages. I must say that the East team is looking sharp. I am happy to be on the same try-out team as Spring, Majkozak, and Toigo who were my linemates from last year. The game started a little sloppy with everyone playing in a game for the first time since last season, but it got better as it went on. We are excited about the incoming rookies and they are making their first impressions to the coaching staff and returning vets. The East team will be looking to continue their undefeated try-out season alive as we will be looking to dominate the North team later today!

Why I Play the Game

Being the youngest of five boys in my family I was born with a hockey stick in my hands. I grew up watching my brothers play hockey and loved every bit of it. I will never forget watching my brothers play for the Des Moines Capitals, Des Moines Buccaneers, Ferris State University, Iowa State Unversity, and Wisconsin Stevens-Points. I idolized them and there friends, it was a dream of mine to play for the Buccaneers and team that they had played for someday.
I was fortunate enough to have my oldest brother Scott coach me when I played high school hockey for the Des Moines Capitals. One of my greatest hockey moments was winning the State Championship my senior year at our home rink (where the DSM Buccaneers played).
After high school I made the Des Moines Buccaneers and was coached by Bob Ferguson. I had an amazing time playing for my hometown team and will never forget it. A year later I found myself continuing my junior hockey career at North Iowa playing for the Outlaws of the NAHL. That is where I played with Brian Spring, Pete Majkozak, and Chris Mackay. Pete and I were interested in Iowa State University, so we had our recruiting trip and met with Coach Murdoch and didn’t look back! That same year Brian Spring commiited followed by Chris Mackay the following year! We have a great group of guys here at ISU and we are looking forward to the 09-010 season!

Back to School

School is starting up again, and it is great to be back in sunny Ames, Iowa! It’s great to have the band back together and I look forward to making some music with the boys when hockey gets up a running again. We have some revenge to take care of, especially against some CSCHL teams (Ohio, Illinois). They stole a few trophies that belonged to us!

I was gone this past weekend competing in the Chicago Triathlon. I traveled in a train for the first time in my life and it was a blast going with all my family and friends. I had my best mile swim of 27 minutes, but my bike and run were not what I wanted. I finished in two hours forty-seven minutes without stopping.
